1. Journal Identity

Orun is an international peer-reviewed academic journal whose primary focus is lexicography; however, it publishes scholarly works from all areas of linguistics (etymology, semantics, morphology, etc.) provided they are related to lexicography. It also features book reviews and evaluations, research notes, interviews, translations, and text publications. Based on the view that this field cannot be regarded merely as a technical endeavor focused on determining word equivalents, the journal approaches lexicography as a broad scientific discipline encompassing the history of language, the evolution of words, trends in the expansion and contraction of meanings, interactions between cultural spheres, and, ultimately, the methodology of reflecting on language.

Provided that the main subject relates to lexicography, the journal is open to scientific studies from every field of linguistics -such as etymology, semantics, and morphology- as well as contributions from other social science disciplines.

2. Rationale

Every field of scholarship develops through the debates that fuel it, the researchers it nurtures, and the publications that document its accumulated scientific knowledge. Lexicography is one of those exceptional fields of research that traces the memory of language, the traces of culture, and the evolution of thought through words, building a scholarly bridge between the past and the future. This field should not be viewed merely as a technical endeavor focused on determining word equivalents, but rather as a broad academic discipline that encompasses the history of language, the journey of words over time, shifts in meaning, the interaction of different cultures, and, ultimately, the scientific methods of reflecting on language itself. Nevertheless, the absence of an independent academic journal in Türkiye that directly focuses on lexicography and regularly brings together theoretical issues, practical experiences, and new research directions in this field has persisted as a significant gap felt for many years. Studies scattered across publications in various academic fields undoubtedly make valuable contributions to the field; however, for lexicography to establish its own scholarly agenda, discuss its issues within its own conceptual framework, and build a sustainable academic memory, a common publishing platform is needed. The advancement of scholarship is only made possible through such platforms where ideas converge, discussions deepen, and accumulated knowledge is passed down from one generation to the next.

Guided by this vision, our journal aims to be more than just a publication addressing the current issues in lexicography; it seeks to be a lasting academic platform that nourishes the field’s scholarly memory, guides new research, and brings together diverse perspectives under one roof. Covering a broad research spectrum from historical dictionaries to contemporary lexicography, from corpus-based studies to digital dictionary technologies, and from terminology studies to AI-powered dictionary applications the journal with the proviso that they are related to lexicography, the journal aims to create a productive platform for scholarly discourse among researchers by enriching its content with scholarly studies from every field of language -such as etymology, semantics, and morphology- as well as contributions from other social science disciplines, all grounded in scholarly rigor, intellectual openness, and an interdisciplinary approach. Our goal is not merely to publish high-quality research; it is to contribute to the theoretical development of lexicography in Türkiye, to bring together researchers in this field under a common scholarly horizon, and, over time, to establish a reputable authority that serves as a reference on an international scale. Launched with the intention of becoming an institution embodying these characteristics, our journal has been named Orun to reflect its purpose.

3. Publication Policy — Summary

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review. Plagiarism is checked using Crossref Similarity Check (iThenticate); all published articles are assigned a DOI.

Under its open access policy, journal content is made available to readers under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence; no fees are charged to either authors or readers. In terms of ethical standards, the journal adheres to the principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

4. Editorship and Boards

The journal’s academic processes are coordinated by the Editor-in-Chief. Editors conduct the initial assessment of submissions and manage the review process. The Editorial Board comprises leading national and international scholars and guides the journal’s editorial policy. The reviewer pool expands with each issue.
